HON NICK GOIRAN (South Metropolitan) [ 10.05 am ]: I move —

That this council —

(a) recognises that this is National Palliative Care Week;

(b) acknowledges the ongoing efforts of Palliative Care Australia and Palliative Care WA;

(c) notes this year’s theme is “You matter, your care matters. Palliative Care can make a difference”; and

RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION SERVICE — SOUTH WEST

115. Hon ALISON XAMON to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Mental Health:

I refer to the need for a 55-bed residential rehabilitation service in the South West Region identified in the “Better Choices. Better Lives: Western Australian Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Services Plan 2015 - 2025” .

(1) Will the government commit to abiding by the original time line proposed for the development of this facility?

INTER-GOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT FOR REGULATORY AND OPERATION REFORM IN OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

110. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the Minister for Commerce and Industrial Relations:

I refer to the Inter-Governmental Agreement for Regulatory and Operation Reform in Occupational Health and Safety, the harmonisation agreement, signed in 2009.

(1) Given that eight years has now passed since WA entered into the agreement, is the government committed to introducing work health and safety uniform legislation as a matter of urgency?

EDUCATION CENTRAL POLICY — PERTH MODERN SCHOOL

HON DONNA FARAGHER (East Metropolitan) [ 1.08 pm ]: I move —

That this house notes both the significant concerns being raised across the community and the lack of consultation undertaken by the McGowan government on its Education Central policy, particularly the proposed relocation of the state’s only fully academically selective senior high school, currently at Perth Modern School, to a high-rise inner-city school within the Perth City Link, and calls on the government to —

CLAISEBROOK ROAD NORTH PRECINCT

HON ALISON XAMON (North Metropolitan) [ 8.49 pm ]: I rise tonight to speak about the future of the Claisebrook Road North area in East Perth. I am particularly concerned about what will happen to the concrete batching plants in this area in the future. For those members who may not be aware of the precinct that I am referring to, it is the part of Claisebrook that is bounded by Lord Street, Summers Street, the railway and the Graham Farmer Freeway. It was initially part of the East Perth redevelopment area but it passed back into local government control in 2002.

CRIMINAL LAW (MENTALLY IMPAIRED ACCUSED) ACT — REFORM

87. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the Attorney General:

I refer to the heinous Criminal Law (Mentally Impaired Accused) Act 1996, which has now been recognised by the United Nations as being in direct violation of the human rights of people with disabilities.

(1) Is this government committed to addressing this disgraceful situation as a matter of urgency by committing to introducing new legislation?

CLIMATE CHANGE

HON ALISON XAMON (North Metropolitan) [ 6.30 pm ]: I rise because I want to make a few comments that I did not have the opportunity to make in the debate today around climate change. I am quite pleased that I did not get the opportunity to speak during the debate because so many members decided to stand and speak. I think that is very positive. I also want to express my pleasure at the fact that nobody who spoke questioned the very science of climate change, which is refreshing. It augurs quite well for our attempts to deal with this monstrous issue for our times.
