More services for Trans kids needed to halt suicide rate: Greens

The Greens have today called for more investment in services for Trans children following disturbing research undertaken by the Telethon Kids Institute which found that 50% of Trans kids had attempted suicide at least once.
 
Greens spokesperson for Mental Health said the research made for sobering reading.
 
“On every measure for mental health and risk of suicide Trans children were identified at being at significant risk,” Ms Xamon said.

Alison represents the more than 362,000 people who live in the North Metropolitan Region, which covers just over 872km2 from Butler in the North to North Fremantle in the south and west as far as Wanneroo Road.

About Alison

A lawyer with a background in industrial, equal opportunity and human rights law, Alison Marie Xamon became the first Greens candidate to win a seat representing East Metropolitan Region when she was elected to the 38th Parliament in 2008. She took her seat in the Legislative Council on 22 May 2009.

A passionate social justice and environmental campaigner for close to three decades, Alison has been involved in activism movements from protecting forests and nuclear disarmament, to education, health and human rights campaigns.

Budget fails to deliver certainty over future of NDIS

The Greens have today criticised the government for failing to provide certainty over the future of the NDIS in Western Australia, following the release of the State Budget yesterday.

Spokesperson for Disability Hon. Alison Xamon MLC said there was a high level of expectation in the community that the budget would have given some indication of the Government’s intention for the scheme.
