Continued uncertainty over future of NDIS must end

The Greens have today criticised the Government for failing to provide a clear timeframe for the WA NDIS roll-out.

Spokesperson for Disability Alison Xamon MLC said it was unacceptable to continue to keep people in the dark about when a decision was expected.  

Ms Xamon said the uncertainty also extended to consumer agencies, which could not spend existing grants funding which is meant to help build capacity ahead of the announcement.

She said agencies were in limbo because they could not apply for new funding.

Greens renew call for Independent Schools Commission

Greens Member for North Metropolitan Region Alison Xamon MLC has today renewed her call for the establishment of an Independent Schools Commission.

Ms Xamon said strong community opposition to the McGowan Government’s plan to relocate Perth Modern School and re-brand it general intake demonstrated the pressing need for such a body.

“I said very clearly during the election campaign that for too long, decisions about the location of new schools and which ones would receive upgrades, had been made at political whim, with a clear view to winning votes,” Ms Xamon said.

Funding for LGBTIQ+ mental health services fall short of need ahead of postal vote

The Greens have today criticised the Government’s “inadequate and half-hearted” commitment to funding specialist mental health services for the GBTIQ+ community on the lead up to the postal vote on Marriage Equality.

Spokesperson for Mental Health Hon. Alison Xamon MLC said while she was relieved the Government had recognised the need for increased mental health assistance ahead of the survey, today’s announcement fell well short of what was likely to be needed.

Budget fails to deliver certainty over future of NDIS

The Greens have today criticised the government for failing to provide certainty over the future of the NDIS in Western Australia, following the release of the State Budget yesterday.

Spokesperson for Disability Hon. Alison Xamon MLC said there was a high level of expectation in the community that the budget would have given some indication of the Government’s intention for the scheme.

Greens to introduce bill to end access to Ministers for cash

The Greens will tomorrow introduce a bill to Parliament which aims to outlaw access to government Ministers for cash.

Spokesperson for Integrity in Government Hon. Alison Xamon MLC said the Electoral Amendment (Access to Ministers) Bill 2017 was designed to prevent promotion of functions, gatherings, meetings or events aimed at raising funds for a particular political party on the basis or suggestion that attendees would gain access to a Minister.
