Greens spokesperson for Mental Health and Disability Hon Alison Xamon MLC has called on the Attorney General to act on his promises to reform the heinous Criminal Law (Mentally Impaired Accused) Act as a matter of urgency, and to ensure that these reforms apply equally to people already being held under the Act.
“Ever since this Government was elected the Attorney General has been saying that the reform of this draconian legislation is a priority, yet 2 years have passed and we still have not seen a bill,” Ms Xamon said during a speech in Parliament last night.
On the eve of International Women’s Day Greens spokesperson for Industrial Relations and Women Hon Alison Xamon MLC is dismayed at the lack of progress towards reducing the gender pay gap in Western Australia.
The latest statistics show that the gender pay gap remains stable in Western Australia at around 22% while the national gap is at 14.6% down from 15.3% from the year before. Unfortunately this means that we retain our position as the state with the widest gender pay gap in the country.
Greens spokesperson for Animal Welfare Hon Alison Xamon MLC has today called on the Federal Department of Agriculture to urgently adopt its proposed reforms to the live sheep heat stress risk assessment model.
“These reforms have been put forward by an independent panel of exports and represents an important step in improving animal welfare until such time as this cruel trade can be brought to an end,” she said.
Hon Alison Xamon spoke today regarding the EPA’s recent decision to approve the Ocean Reef Marina development.
“I recognise that a marina project in this area has been highly anticipated by the community for a number of years,” she said, “however, we need to ensure that the very best environmental standards are applied.”
The Marina development will be taking place on Bush Forever Site 325 and in the Marmion Marine Park.
Greens spokesperson for Mental Health Hon Alison Xamon MLC has expressed dismay about the progress made toward achieving the targets set out in the 10 year mental health and alcohol and other drug services plan following today’s release of updated service modelling for the Plan.
“While I am pleased to see the updated modelling finally released, the draft Plan Update 2018 confirms what I have been saying for a long time – we are falling way short of the targets needed to achieve a complete rebalancing of the system,” Ms Xamon said.
