Greens spokesperson for children and youth, Hon Alison Xamon MLC, has renewed her call for the Government to increase funding for the Kids Helpline as answers to questions in Parliament yesterday revealed two out of three calls to the helpline from Western Australian children and young people went unanswered in 2018.

Ms Xamon said that more than half of the attempts made by children and young people to contact the counselling service using web chat last year were also unsuccessful.

Who is paying for political parties? House votes against transparency measures

Yesterday, the Legislative Council voted against a range of political donations transparency measures.

Hon Alison Xamon, the Greens WA spokesperson for Electoral Affairs called on the Legislative Council to support banning foreign donations, introducing real time reporting of donations and fixing the inconsistencies across jurisdictions.

“I was disappointed, but not surprised to see the major parties choose to back away from telling the public who is giving them money and when.”

Industrial Relations reforms welcome but do not go far enough: Greens

Greens spokesperson for Industrial Relations and Worker Safety Hon Alison Xamon MLC has today welcomed the release of the final report of the Ministerial Review of the State’s Industrial Relations System in tandem with the Government’s response, but says even more must be done to improve conditions for workers.

“Prioritising  vulnerable workers through measures to address workplace bullying, increasing penalties for breaches of employment laws and strengthening of industrial inspector powers are long overdue,” said Ms Xamon.

City of Perth residents deserve elected representation: Greens

Hon Alison Xamon MLC, Member for the North Metropolitan region, has raised in parliament concerns regarding the ongoing lack of elected representation for the City of Perth.

Ms Xamon acknowledged that there had been issues with the City of Perth and said that she did not question the Minister’s motivations in suspending the Council on 2 March 2018 and appointing three commissioners while an inquiry was conducted.
