Everyone has the right to access education and training, whether they are leaving school, changing careers, retraining later in life or looking to gain new skills and knowledge. A strong publicly funded training system is vital for economic growth and community development. Federally, successive Labor and Liberal governments have slashed education funding and treated students as customers and education as a business.
In a post mining boom and post-COVID WA, more people need affordable, quality technical education and further education. Investment in training services is essential to address issues of unemployment and disadvantage. The government has an obligation to ensure that good and targeted training is available to people who need it most.
