POLITICAL DONATIONS — LABOR PARTY

508. Hon ALISON XAMON to the Leader of the House representing the Premier:

(1) Can the Premier please advise who donated money to the Labor Party between 25 and 28 August 2017 in return for being able to meet with which ministers?

(2) If no, why not?

(3) Please advise how members of the general public are to know who donates money for the purposes of accessing a minister and what is the earliest that this information will be made available?

The PRESIDENT : Leader of the House, before I give you the call, I think the member is seeking information that possibly can only be provided by a party office rather than a minister. It is up to you how you respond on this occasion.

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

Thank you, Madam President; indeed, you are correct and that is what the answer refers to.

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) – (3) Inquiries relating to political donations should be directed to the relevant political parties. It is well known that WA Labor complies with its obligations under the Electoral Act 1907. I direct the honourable member to WA Labor’s election policy “Disclosure and Democracy in the Digital Age” regarding reform of disclosure of donations to political parties as well as third party organisations, which we look forward to progressing and implementing with the cooperation of other political parties.
