PRISONS — ABORIGINAL VISITORS SCHEME

2848. Hon Alison Xamon to the minister representing the Minister for Corrective Services:

(1)  Which prisons currently do not receive regular weekly visits from Aboriginal Visitors Scheme staff?

(2)  Why are the sites from (1), not part of the Aboriginal Visitors Scheme?

Hon Stephen Dawson replied:

(1)  Bunbury Regional Prison, Wooroloo Prison Farm, Acacia Prison, West Kimberley Regional Prison and Roebourne Regional Prison.

(2)  All of the sites noted above are part of the Aboriginal Visitors Scheme, except for Acacia Prison. AVS positions in the sites listed above are currently vacant and recruitment is underway to fill these positions. AVS metro staff cannot be easily re-allocated to the regional prisons as it is important that the AVS staff are culturally appropriate for that region.
