Research and treatment for ME/CFS
Myalgic encephalomyelitis, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a debilitating illness that affects most body systems including the nervous, immune, cardiac, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems. It is conservatively thought that it affects between 0.4 and 1% of the Australian population – or between 10,000 and 26,000 Western Australians. Some sufferers have attributed their symptoms to tick-borne illnesses, including Lyme-like illness, which is not currently a disease that can be tested for by the Australian medical community.
