STATE RECORDS OFFICE

HON ALISON XAMON (North Metropolitan) [ 6.28 pm ]: On the eve of the budget being announced, I want to make some comments about the importance of ensuring that we maintain a strong and independent State Records Office. State records are effectively the memory of our government. It is not only an archive of our heritage, but also, most importantly, a way of ensuring government accountability. For members’ information, the need for an independent state archives entity was originally identified in the 1992 WA Inc royal commission.

TELETHON KIDS INSTITUTE “TRANS PATHWAYS”

HON ALISON XAMON (North Metropolitan) [ 9.50 pm ]: I rise tonight to talk about some important research that has come out recently from the Telethon Kids Institute on which I was fortunate to receive a briefing and to go to the launch of last week. Some members may have had the opportunity during the dinner break to see the institute’s display on health and medical research upstairs. The research I am talking about was also briefly on display tonight. It is good to see that people are given the opportunity to be made aware of it.
