MENTAL HEALTH — “THE IMPACT OF FIFO WORK PRACTICES ON MENTAL HEALTH” REPORT — RECOMMENDATIONS

2828. Hon Alison Xamon to the Leader of the House representing the Attorney General:

I refer to the government response to Recommendation 3, of the ‘Impact of FIFO Work Practices on Mental Health’ report, and I ask:

(a)  is the case management system now operational;

(b)  does the system enable extraction of suicide statistics for FIFO workers, whether the death occurred on a mine site or at another location;

(c)  if yes to (b), please provide the number of FIFO worker suicide/suspected suicide deaths for the most recent financial year available;

(d)  if no to (a):

(i)  why not;

(ii)  when is it anticipated the system will be operational; and

(e)  if no to (b), why not?

Hon Sue Ellery replied:

(a)  Yes.

(b)  Yes.

(c)  The Integrated Courts Management System (ICMS) was initially implemented at the Coroner’s Court of Western Australia on 10 February 2020, with the requirement to record FIFO status in suicides added subsequently. As such, it is not yet possible to provide full financial year results for the number of FIFO worker suicides.

(d)  N/A.

(e)  N/A.
