CHILD PROTECTION — PARENTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

HON ALISON XAMON (North Metropolitan) [10.03 pm]: I rise tonight to speak about parents with intellectual disability and their interaction with our child protection system. A number of individual matters have come to my attention over recent years, and I will indicate and comment on some disturbing trends. Parents with intellectual disability are treated unfairly within our child protection system. This issue has occurred across successive governments, so I certainly am not trying to point the finger at any particular government—it is a system-wide concern.

EDUCATION — INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

HON ALISON XAMON (North Metropolitan) [6.28 pm]: I rise because I wanted to make a few comments about the revelations (on the ABC’s Four Corners program, which ran a segment on Monday called “Cash Cows”) that arose in relation to Murdoch University. I would like to begin by saying that I am a proud Murdochian graduate. I have two degrees from Murdoch University. Many years ago I was the guild president out at Murdoch and I was on the Murdoch senate and, indeed, on the Murdoch Academic Council.
