YOUTH FORENSIC MENTAL HEALTH UNIT

1092. Hon ALISON XAMON to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:

I refer to the Morrison government’s pre-election commitment of $14.8 million towards a 10-bed youth forensic mental health unit in Western Australia.

(1)  Has this funding now been allocated by the commonwealth government?

(2)  If yes to (1), how much funding has been allocated?

(3)  Has the state government allocated any funding towards this project?

(4)  If yes to (3), how much?

(5)  Where will the unit be established?

(6)  Is it still intended to be a 10-bed unit?

(7)  When is the unit anticipated to open?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I note that this was submitted on 18 September, so the answer is accurate as of that date.

(1)  A formal offer of this funding has not yet been received. The WA Department of Health is currently negotiating a project agreement for the funding under the Community Health and Hospitals Program announced by the federal government.

(2)  Not applicable.

(3)  No.

(4)  Not applicable.

(5)  This is to be determined subject to funding being secured, and based on an assessment of local priorities in consultation with stakeholders.
