Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

345. Hon ALISON XAMON to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Mental Health:

I refer to the emerging awareness of the incidence and impact of older adult suicide in our community since the state suicide strategy, “Suicide Prevention 2020”, was released. What is the Mental Health Commission doing to reduce the suicide risk in this population?

Hon ALANNA CLOHESY replied:

I refer to the Education and Health Standing Committee report entitled “The Impact of FIFO work practices on mental health”.

(1)  Will the Coroner’s Court develop and implement a searchable database for recording and monitoring trends in reportable deaths in Western Australia as recommended in the committee report?

(2)  If yes to (1), when?

(3)  If no to (1), why not?
