HOUSING — BUILDING CODE — MINIMUM ACCESS STANDARDS

1641. Hon Alison Xamon to the minister representing the Minister for Commerce and Industrial Relations:

(1)  Does the Minister support proposals to amend the building code to guarantee minimum access standards in all new builds?

(2)  If yes to (1), when does the Minister propose to introduce these amendments?

(3)  If no to (1), why not?

Hon Alannah MacTiernan replied:

(1)  Yes.

(2)  The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) released its Accessible Housing Options Paper on 21 September 2018 and, subject to the outcome of that consultation and a Regulatory Impact Statement in early 2019, the new access requirements for housing should be effective from May 2022.

(3)  Not applicable.
