177. Hon Alison Xamon to the minister representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to the Youth Justice Board, and I ask:
(a) will the Youth Justice Board continue operating;
(b) if no to (a), does the Minister plan to introduce any new formal mechanism for independent input into Western Australia Youth Justice Services; and
(c) if yes to (a), could the Minister please explain how the Board will provide advice regarding the operation of Youth Justice Services given these services will now be spread across two separate departments?

The Department of Justice advises:
(a) No.
(b) The creation of an independent statutory board to oversee the operation of detention facilities in Western Australia was proposed in the Green Paper on the review of the Young Offenders Act 1994 (WA). The review is ongoing.
(c) Not applicable.
