Women

Women represent 51 per cent of the community, yet there remains a significant disparity between the quality of life for women and that of men. Millions of women in this day and age, constantly suffer the denial of basic fundamental rights such as access to food, shelter, health care, education and employment. It is up to our Government to enact and enforce legislation to protect women’s rights, whilst ensuring that it gives women an opportunity to participate on equal terms in political and economic decision-making bodies so that we all can benefit from a more egalitarian society.

Alison strongly feels that we need to support and advocate for a community where women can contribute, have their voices heard, respected, valued and represented equally as citizens. Alison is committed to fostering a community where women have the same social rights and access to education and employment as men, as well as the right to control their own bodies and sexuality.

The Women's Information Service (WIS) is staffed by a group of fully trained and dedicated volunteers who respond each year to around 6,000 telephone inquiries from across Western Australia. Common inquires include seeking information and/or referral for health issues, finances, legal matters, counselling and domestic violence. The Office for Women's Policy offers a range of helpful information for women, community organisations, policy makers, students and researchers through a dedicated telephone information and referral service.
Country Women's Association of WA a women’s organisation working to improve the welfare and wellbeing of people everywhere, by providing community service, support networks, welfare in times of need, education opportunities, friendship, fun and a great deal more.
Soroptomists of WA a worldwide organisation for women in management and professions working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women.
Women in Business (WA) a West Australian website designed to provide an online networking environment for WA business women, and enable them to showcase their product or services through directory listings, enewsletters and advertising.
National Shelter the peak non-government organisation representing the interests of low-income housing consumers, comprising representatives of Shelter bodies in all States and Territories, the Australian Federation of Homelessness Organisations, the National Youth Coalition for Housing and the National Association of Tenant Organisations. National Shelter cooperates closely with other national bodies such as the Australian Council of Social Service and the National Community Housing Forum.
