SCHOOLS — INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE QUALIFICATION

414. Hon Alison Xamon to the Minister for Education and Training:

I refer to the International Baccalaureate qualification, and ask:

(a)  has the Minister considered making this qualification available to Western Australian public school students;

(b)  will the Minister consider making this qualification available to Western Australian public school students; and

(c)  if the answer to (b) is yes, which schools are being considered for delivery of the Baccalaureate?

Hon Sue Ellery replied:

(a)  All schools, including public schools, can apply to the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) to seek recognition for a curriculum that is different to the Pre-primary to Year10 Western Australian Curriculum and/or for a different method of reporting student achievement, as outlined in the Authority’s Pre-primary to Year 10: Teaching, Assessing and Reporting Policy.

(b)  Were a public school to seek recognition from the Authority for the International Baccalaureate as an alternative curriculum, the matter would be considered at that point in time.

(c)  Not applicable.
