WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY BILL — INTRODUCTION

828. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the Minister for Industrial Relations:

I refer to the government’s announcement on 12 July 2017 of the development of a modernised work health and safety act for Western Australia to be based on the national model Work Health and Safety Bill.

(1)  Will the minister please advise when the bill will be introduced?

(2)  If not, why not?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

MODERN SLAVERY

HON MATTHEW SWINBOURN (East Metropolitan) [11.30 am] — without notice: I move —

That this house notes the existence of modern slavery in Western Australia, the pernicious form that it takes in practices like domestic servitude and forced labour and the need for both the state and federal governments to stamp it out where it occurs and to remain vigilant to ensure it does not ever become prevalent.
