MENTAL HEALTH — ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION CENTRE — SOUTH WEST

1301. Hon Alison Xamon to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Mental Health:

I refer to the Government’s budget allocation of $18 million, to establish an alcohol and other drug residential rehabilitation centre in the South West, and I ask:

(a)  how will rehabilitation beds be distributed across the South West region;

(b)  does the allocated funding include provision for capital costs such as building new facilities or fitting out existing buildings;

Government must reverse its decision to cut funding to Meth Helpline

Greens spokesperson for Alcohol and Other Drugs Hon Alison Xamon MLC has today called on the Government to reverse its decision to cut funding to the Meth Helpline.

Ms Xamon said the cut backs, which have already led to the scaling back of counselling shifts from 75 to 65 per fortnight, would make it more difficult for people to access the support they need.

She said there needed to be more investment in the vital service, not less.
