POLICE — MENTAL HEALTH CO-RESPONSE TRIAL

1482. Hon Alison Xamon to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I refer to the Minister’s response to question without notice No. 328, about the Government’s trial of police and mental health co-response teams, and I ask:

(a)  since more than eight months have passed since the question was answered, will the Minister advise if the trial has now concluded;

(b)  if yes to (a), what provisions are in place to ensure that the infrastructure surrounding the program is not lost should the evaluation point to the rolling out of the program state-wide;

(c)  is the evaluation of the trial complete;

(d)  if yes to (c), will the Minister please table the findings;

(e)  if not to (c), when will the evaluation be finalised; and

(f)  when does the Minister anticipate a decision will be made about the future of the co-response teams?

Hon Stephen Dawson replied:

(a)–(f) The Mental Health Co-Response Trial has concluded and the trial has been evaluated by Edith Cowan University. A copy of the evaluation will be tabled [See tabled paper no 1830.]. Mental Health Co-Response services continue to be delivered in the trial areas. The Western Australia Police Force and Mental Health Commission are developing a submission for consideration by Government.
