MENTAL HEALTH — EATING DISORDERS

2086. Hon Alison Xamon to the parliamentary secretary representing the Deputy Premier; Minister for Health; Mental Health:

(1)  How many people are currently on a waiting list for treatment for an eating disorder?

(2)  How many referrals, each year for the past five years, has the Western Australian Eating Disorders Outreach and Consultation Service received?

(3)  How much funding, each year for the past five years, has the Western Australian Eating Disorders Outreach and Consultation Service received?

Hon Alanna Clohesy replied:

I am advised:

(1)  At the Centre for Clinical Interventions (the only public specialist psychological service for eating disorders in Western Australia) there are 58 people wait listed for treatment.

(2)  The Western Australian Eating Disorders Outreach and Consultation service provides consultation, training and education to clinicians. It does not provide any service delivery directly to those experiencing eating disorders and or their families.

The Western Australian Eating Disorders Outreach and Consultation service has only been operating for two full years (part of 2016–2017, 2017–2018 and part of 2018–2019). Clinicians refer patients’ cases to the Western Australian Eating Disorder Outreach and Consultation service and the clinicians receive ongoing support regarding those individual patients:

Referrals in the first year 2016–2017 – 156 patients

Referrals in the second year 2017–2018 – 215 patients

The service also supports clinicians with single consultations, and offers support for unidentified patients.

(3)  The Western Australian Eating Disorders Outreach and Consultation service has only been operating for two full years (part of 2016–2017, 2017–2018 and part of 2018–2019).
