EMERGENCY SERVICES — AUTHORISED HOSPITAL DIVERSIONS

2080. Hon Alison Xamon to the minister representing the Minister for Emergency Services; Corrective Services:

I refer to the Office of the Inspector of Custodial Services report Prisoner Access to Secure Mental Health Treatment, Recommendation 2 regarding the diversion of non-serious offenders on hospital orders to authorised hospitals other than the Frankland Centre, and I ask:

(a)  following the release of the report have any prisoners been diverted to other authorised hospitals;

(b)  if yes to (a):

(i)  how many prisoners have been diverted;

(ii)  in which prisons have they been accommodated; and

(iii)  to which hospitals have they been diverted; and

(c)  if no to (a), why not?

Hon Stephen Dawson replied:

(a)–(c) The State Forensic Mental Health Services acute inpatient facility at Graylands Hospital (Frankland Centre) is the only authorised facility able to accept forensic mental health patients under the Mental Health Act 2014.
