EDUCATION AND TRAINING — STUDENTS WHOSE WHEREABOUTS ARE UNKNOWN

2047. Hon Alison Xamon to the Minister for Education and Training:

I refer to the list of “Students Whose Whereabouts are Unknown”, and I ask:

(a)  how many children and young people of compulsory school age are currently on the list;

(b)  in which school districts did the students from (a), last attend school; and

(c)  how many of the students in (a), are known to:

(i)  youth justice services; and

(ii)  child protection services?

Hon Sue Ellery replied:

(a) As at 15 April 2019, there are 969 compulsory-aged students on the list of students whose whereabouts are unknown.

(c)      (i)–(ii) The Department of Education does not hold this information. However, the list of students recorded as SWU is provided monthly to the Departments of Justice and Communities.
