CHILD PROTECTION — CHILDREN AND COMMUNITY SERVICES ACT — REVIEW

1207. Hon Alison Xamon to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Child Protection:

I refer to the statutory review of the Children and Community Services Act 2004, tabled on 28 November 2017, and I ask:

(a)  which recommendations are supported by the Government;

(b)  which recommendations are not supported;

(c)  does the Minister intend to introduce amendments to strengthen the Act or improve its operation as recommended by the review;

(d)  if yes to (d), please provide information about the intended amendments;

(e)  if yes to (d), when;

(f)  if no to (d), why not; and

(g)  if the Government has not yet established a position on the report’s recommendations, when does the Minister anticipate this will occur?

Hon Sue Ellery replied:

(a)–(g) The Government supports the majority of the Review’s recommendations and is giving careful consideration to which recommendations may be included in an amendment Bill. In particular, recommendations related to the intersection between child protection proceedings and proceedings in the Family Court require further consideration.
