Greens welcome ASU Pay Equity claim

The Greens have welcomed today’s announcement by the ASU that they will be pursuing Orders for a pay equity case for community sector workers employed under the Western Australians Industrial Relations system.


The comments came from Alison Xamon, Greens spokesperson for Women and Industrial Relations who has long campaigned for firm action to be taken to address the appalling pay equity gap experienced by woman workers in WA.


“WA has the worst pay equity gap in Australia,” said Ms Xamon.

Midland Hospital privatisation debacle continues

The ongoing sagas following the decision to privatise the new Midland Health campus continue, say the Greens.


Alison Xamon, Greens member for the East Metropolitan region today attended a rally of nurses outside the Swan Districts Hospital when she was given the opportunity to address the crowd.


“I was pleased to be able to attend today’s rally and offer the Greens support to the nurses of Swan Districts Hospital who have been told that when the new Midland Health campus opens in 2015 that they will be losing a number of accrued entitlements,” Ms Xamon said.

Government Stolen Wages deadline disgraceful: Greens

The Greens are calling on the Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Hon Peter Collier MLC, to reconsider his refusal of a request by the Aboriginal Legal Service to extend the Stolen Wages Reparation Scheme’s 9 month deadline.  


 Deadlines for similar schemes in Queensland and New South Wales were 4 and 5 years.


 “Refusing to extend the deadline is disgraceful,” said Greens MLC Alison Xamon.

Worksafe vacancies a risk to workers

The Greens have warned of the risk of an increase in workplace accidents if the number of vacancies of Workplace Inspectors at Worksafe is not urgently addressed.


The warning came following revelations at Parliamentary Estimates that during the last year the Department of Worksafe has seen a dramatic drop in the number of investigations undertaken, workplace visits, and the issuing of Improvement and Prohibition Notices.

Hospital parking fee rises a slap in the face for nursing shift workers: WA Greens
