ANIMAL WELFARE — GREYHOUND RACING INDUSTRY

559. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the Minister for Racing and Gaming:

I refer to the 2019–20 state budget and programs designed to improve the welfare of greyhounds. For the 2019–20 financial year and across the forward estimates, how much funding has been allocated to —

(a)  greyhound rehoming initiatives;

(b)  the track injury rebate scheme;

(c)  the greyhound trainer subsidy scheme; and

(d)  ongoing surveillance of tracks and venues?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Racing and Gaming.

(a)  Subject to approval from the Racing and Wagering Western Australia board at its June meeting, the proposed budget for 2019–20 is a total of $1 170 236.

(b)  The funding is $304 000.

(c)  The funding is $1 755 904.

(d)  This item does not have a specific budget line, as it forms part of the overall budget of the RWWA integrity operations.
