Animal Welfare

Animals have intrinsic value separate from the needs of humans, as such we have a duty to minimise cruelty to animals from human activity. The welfare of animals must be respected with regard to both the survival of species and the protection of individual animals. Alison and the Greens have a vision for a Western Australia in which animals are free from exploitation, abuse and cruelty.

As the Greens (WA) spokesperson for animal welfare, Alison is deeply committed to improving the welfare and wellbeing of animals by protecting our native wildlife and their habitats and strengthening animal welfare laws in WA. The best way to raise the status of animals and end their exploitation is not only through greater protection under the law but by informing community members about the needs of animals as well as the impacts of our choices on animal welfare and the environment.

Alison will continue to advocate for improving animal welfare and protections with a focus on the intensive farming of livestock, live exports of animals, the treatment of animals in entertainment and the management and welfare of companion animals.
